So it’s been a rough start to the year. Things haven’t gone exactly how I planed and I kinda find myself in almost the same place I started. Things could be a lot worse but I’m still feeling myself trapped in this rut. Today I’m doing something about it.
I’m taking a few days off to head to Las Vegas to get my mind right. In all honesty, most of my lack of progress this year can be tied to a total lack of execution on my part. I’ve come to realize that most of the time, its better to have a tiny little project completed then to be working on the worlds most amazing project but never get it done.
I’m not sure if I’m going to actually work on anything while I’m out there. I would say I plan on hanging out poolside but it looks like it’s going to be raining all weekend. I might get a few pages done in between the gambling and the drinking.
On a more serious note, the revelation about small projects that get done being more valuable then massive projects that never see the light of day is something that’s been swimming around my head all week. I usually don’t like to set completion dates for personal projects because I get the feeling that it cramps my creativity but I’m going to try something new.
I want to have a completed 10 page short script, completed and polished by Sunday evening. I think its important to start getting these smaller completed projects done. I have a lot of ambition but none of it is worth a damn if I can’t show the ability to execute.
It’s funny that I never had this problem when managing company projects. Managing game development seems to be so much easier then managing my own creative ventures.
