Slow start to the new year

I haven’t been posting on here as often as I had planned. The new year hasn’t started out as well as I had hoped for so I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to get things moving in the right direction.

I’ve been away from the development industry for too long and I really miss it. I thought that trying something new would be a positive experience but after three years of “trying something new” I find that I’m just spinning my wheels. It’s time to get back to the work I love and something that I have passion for.

I think today I’m going to start my transition back to the development side of things. I don’t expect it to happen overnight but I expect that even the smallest steps will have a big impact on my mood at this point. I want to create. I want to create in games and film. I’ve learned an important lesson about being “realistic.” It’s that fastest way to get nowhere.

I’ve already started on a game design document to get me back into the swing of things, something I’m really excited about. I’ve also got a few scraps of movie scripts on the computer that need to get completed. I just want to create and I’m tired of not doing the things I love.

If I can give one piece of humble advice to anyone who has a dream…please don’t let other people talk you into doing something safe and comfortable over chasing your dream. It will come back to bite you in the ass.

First video game concept and pitch document of 2011 is in the books

It’s about 4:30 am and I’ve just completed my first video game concept and pitch document of the new year! I’m sure I should be worried about the fact that I never sleep but that concern aside, this is a big step in the right direction. The game is an Action / Platformer designed to be developed on XBLA. I plan on shopping it around as early as Monday to a few local independent studios. If we can get enough interest, I can move forward with the funding process. I’m really excited about the IP!

Company loyalty

There are some serious dangers associated with buying into the illusion of company loyalty.  A lot of people get sucked into the flash and dance of the corporate hype men and it leave hard working individuals vulnerable. This topic seemed like a great opportunity for me to launch the new video blog aspect of this site. I’ve attached the video / audio blog below. The goal of these videos and this blog in general is to generate discussion in the community and get people exchanging ideas. Feel free to comment and open up a dialog.

Happy New Year!

It’s 2011 and the dawn of a new phase in my life. For a long time I’ve been laying the groundwork for my ambitions and passions. Now I’m finally ready to push forward and turn those ambitions and passions into reality. It’s been a very long time coming but I believe that the things I’m going to create will be worth it. I still have a very long road ahead of me but with the beginning of the new year, I’ve begun the journey. There is so much that I want to do, that I want to create, and that I want to build. I’m confident that this is the year I truly begin to build my Empire.  I wish you all an amazing and exciting new year!
